Section 15 VF Testing
The CableSHARK is capable of performing voice frequency (VF) tests from 300 Hz to 4 kHz (some tests go
up to 20 kHz). The VF tests include transmitting level/frequency, receiving level/frequency, measuring Noise,
measuring Influence and measuring Impulse Noise.
15.1 Sending Tone (Transmitting Level/Frequency)
The Sending Tone function allows a user to send a single tone or multiple tones to a far end device, be it
another CableSHARK or a EXFO Auto-TIMS III Transmission Impairment Measuring Set. The options under
the Send Tone umbrella include Spot, Variable, 3 Tone Slope and Tracing Tone.
15.1.1 Sending Spot Frequencies
To send a Spot Frequency, select the VF TESTS option from the CABLE TESTS pop-up menu. Select
SEND TONE from the VF TESTS sub-menu. To continue, press RUN/STOP.
